KHARTOUM, MAY 14, 2023 (SUDANS POST) — The head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander in Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) General Abdefattah al-Burhan has issued an order freezing bank accounts belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement, the SAF said the decision was made today by Burhan and that banks have been directed to comply with the decision.

“The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, today issued a decision to freeze the accounts of the Rapid Support Forces and its companies in all banks in Sudan and their branches abroad,” the statement reads in part.

“The decision stipulated preventing the disbursement of any entitlements or budgets allocated to them,” the statement added.

The statement said that Burhan further “directed the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the Bank of Sudan to implement the decision.”

The decision comes as the parties are set to resume peace talks in Saudi Arabia where international community led by the United States is pushing for a ceasefire to safeguard civilians.

It remains unclear how the latest decision by the army would affect the engagement between the two sides. - Sudans Post
