Department of Treasury says move marks 1st time sitting president’s signature will feature on US banknotes

ANKARA

The US Department of the Treasury announced on Thursday that President Donald Trump’s signature will appear on future US paper currency, marking a first for a sitting president.

The decision is tied to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the US, according to a statement by the department.

“In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future U.S. paper currency,” the Treasury said.

The signature will appear alongside that of the Treasury Secretary.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the move reflects economic priorities under the administration.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and fiscal strength and stability,” he said.

“There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his name,” he added.

US Treasurer Brandon Beach also commented on the decision, saying: “As the 250th anniversary of our great nation approaches, American currency will continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people.”

“Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved,” Beach added. Anadolu Agency
