The Wiper Democratic Movement party, led by its leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has dismissed claims that it plans to join President William Ruto’s broad-based administration.

In a brief statement on Wednesday morning, Wiper flagged a viral social media post purporting that its former Deputy Party Leader and Daadab Member of Parliament, Farah Maalim, had called for the incorporation of the party into the government.

The flagged media release alleged that Maalim, who was recently expelled from Wiper over allegations of contravening party rules, had raised concerns over the party’s continued stay in the opposition.

According to the fake post, recent developments, including President William Ruto’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, raised urgent and unavoidable questions about the party's future.

“Decisions affecting Wiper and the opposition have been made without broad consultation, leaving us politically adrift. While we have given our loyalty to this movement, it is now clear that loyalty must be reciprocated with inclusion,” read part of the post.

It went on to add, “The people we represent deserve leadership that is decisive and pragmatic. If the space for opposition continues to shrink and the party remains directionless, we must explore new avenues.”

The misleading post further claimed that the opposition party was open to dialogue with Ruto’s administration as it sought to secure a better future for its supporters.

While refuting the aforementioned allegations, the Wiper party flagged the press release as fake, maintaining that Maalim ceased to be a party official following his expulsion for allegedly making offensive comments against Kenyans.

"For the avoidance of doubt, Farah Maalim, who until now served as Wiper’s deputy leader, stands expelled for violating the Constitution, infringing on the rights of Kenyans, and making offensive remarks against Kenyan mothers,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo was forced to clarify the matter after a section of Kenyans criticised the Wiper party leader over an alleged scheme to join the current regime, just days after Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party joined the government.

Meanwhile, the latest development comes on the back of Kalonzo's recent sentiments condemning Raila's pact with Ruto, terming it as a betrayal to Kenyans.

Speaking at the People's Dialogue Festival in Nairobi on Friday, March 7, the former Vice President urged Kenyans, particularly the youthful generation, to reject the latest political pact, claiming it was only for self-interests.

"If there is no formula at the KICC showing how Kenyans are going to compensate their families and the loss of lives due to police brutality, then there is nothing that will come out of KICC other than betrayal," Kalonzo declared. By Timothy Cerullo , Kenyans.co.ke
