Eye Witness News

Police in the North West have arrested two suspects in connection with a brutal farm attack earlier in the week in Ventersdorp.

50-year-old farmer Donovan Marx was allegedly tied up by three attackers, who assaulted him and cut off both his earlobes. A farm worker was also assaulted in the attack on Wednesday.

Police launched a multidisciplinary team to hunt for the suspects as well as the vehicle which they stole from the farm.

NW Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams confirmed that two suspects were apprehended on Saturday.

"I can also confirm that his vehicle that was taken during the incident, was recovered this morning (Saturday). Our criminal records centre team will study the vehicle to find any DNA samples that may have been left in the vehicle, to assist our investigation."

Adams has praised the SAPS team investigating the attack - and thanked local community roleplayers who helped the police to make this breakthrough.

"There are local farmers and private security companies who responded immediately when the case was reported. Even some farmers who put up rewards for information that could assist us to apprehend these suspects, and other members of the public who shared information they had that could help us locate these heartless criminals."

Marx remains in hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.
