Kenya will now be able to import high-quality medicines from Pakistan in a new deal signed by the two governments.

The deal signed between the Ministry of Health and officials from the government of Japan will also ensure human resources for health exchange to address the shortage of specialized healthcare professionals in both countries.

The PS Medical Services at the ministry Peter Tum hosted the Pakistan delegation led by the High Commissioner for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Saqlain Syeda to discuss healthcare partnerships between the two countries.

“These agreements will enable Kenya to achieve its Kwanza agenda on Universal Health Coverage and Afya mashinani,” the ministry said in a statement.

Other Key instruments of cooperation signed with Pakistan include a general broad Memorandum of Understanding and an e-health agreement that will facilitate the exchange of expertise on digital health solutions.

“To fast-track the agreements, the technical teams of both countries will work together closely,” the ministry said.

According to the PS, the achievement of Kenya Kwanza's agenda on Universal Health Coverage and Afya mashinani is a top priority for both countries. - MAGDALINE SAYA, The Star
