The football world is in mourning following the tragic death of former Arsenal and Liverpool goalkeeper Alex Manninger, who passed away in a car accident on April 16.

Known for a career defined by professionalism and a steadying presence between the posts, the Austrian shot-stopper leaves behind a legacy of reliability across Europe’s most prestigious leagues.

Manninger was a figure of immense discipline, earning the respect of teammates and rivals alike for his calm demeanor under pressure and his unwavering commitment to his role, whether as a primary starter or a seasoned veteran presence in the dressing room.

During his tenure at Liverpool, Manninger served as an experienced backup, providing essential cover and mentorship to the squad.

His journey through elite football also saw him reach the pinnacle of Italian sports, where he clinched the Serie A title with Juventus during the 2011–12 season.

This achievement highlighted his ability to contribute to championship-winning environments at the highest level.

After a long and distinguished career, he officially retired from professional football in 2017.

In the years following his retirement, Manninger opted for a life away from the intense scrutiny of the spotlight.

He maintained a low profile, living a quiet and largely private life with minimal public involvement.

While he occasionally appeared in football circles to maintain his connection to the sport he loved, he remained dedicated to his privacy.

His sudden passing marks the end of a life lived with the same quiet dignity that characterised his time on the pitch. The Star
