Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has called on Kenyans to build the legacy of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to the senator, Uhuru did a lot for the country for the 10 years he was Commander in Chief of the armed forces.
Ledama added that he is a good man.
"President Uhuru did a lot for Kenya. He is a good Man. We must continue to build on his legacy!" he said on Wednesday.
His reaction followed calls by legislators allied with President William Ruto who called for Uhuru's dismissal as a regional peace envoy.
He was handed the role by President William Ruto soon after he was sworn in as head of state.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei on Wednesday said the government will petition the Treasury to stop the retirement perks of Uhuru and former PM Raila Odinga.
Ruto has indirectly accused Uhuru of funding Raila's anti-government meetings, but his allies have been more blatant.
“Since he [Uhuru] is undermining the government and funding Azimio's activities, why do you want the same government to validate your appointment if you don’t believe in it?” Cherargei asked.
“I will petition the President before the close of business today (Wednesday) over the peace envoy job. Under the Retirement Benefits Act, you must be retired. But from the talk of Uhuru Kenyatta, he’s still active in politics.”
This followed a letter from Nyandarua Senator John Methu to KRA, demanding a tax audit of at least three Kenyatta family firms.
These are Brookside Dairy Limited — East Africa’s largest milk processor — Enke Investment Ltd and the merger of NIC Bank and CBA.
On Tuesday, however, Uhuru rubbished the push, terming his adversaries as idlers. By Brian Oruta, The Star
