Detectives in Nairobi have arrested three people and rescued five women allegedly being held and exploited in an online sexual exploitation operation in Mihang'o, Embakasi East Constituency.

The suspects, who detectives have since identified as a family, include the 43-year-old Morine Imbaali, who is the owner of the premises and the prime suspect; her daughter Barbara Okoyo, 24, who is alleged to have recruited the victims; and her son-in-law, Alfred Okelo, 30, who is suspected of maintaining the computer systems allegedly used in the operation.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a team from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) conducted the operation after acting on intelligence, leading to the rescue of five women who were found confined in two bedrooms of a house in the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims had allegedly been lured with promises of well-paying jobs, only to be forced into producing online sexual content for commercial exploitation.

During a search of the premises, detectives recovered several items believed to have been used to facilitate the suspected operation. The items were documented as part of the investigation.

The suspects were taken to Kasarani Police Station, where they remain in custody pending processing and arraignment.

“They are expected to face charges of trafficking in persons contrary to Section 3(1)(d), as read together with Section 3(5), of the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Act, No. 8 of 2010, alongside other related offences,” DCI stated.

Police said arrangements are underway to relocate the five rescued women to a safe shelter, where they will receive psychosocial support, medical care and other services aimed at facilitating their recovery and reintegration.

DCI has since urged job seekers to exercise caution when responding to employment opportunities, especially those offered by unverified recruiters, warning that criminal networks continue to exploit vulnerable individuals through false promises of lucrative jobs.

The agency also appealed to members of the public with information on human trafficking or related crimes to report the matter confidentially through its toll-free reporting channels. Citizen Digital
