Tanzania Railways Corp has received 30 double-decker passenger coaches previously used by Deutsche Bahn in Germany, according to the railway portal Railway Supply, citing Railway Gazette.
The former DB “Görlitz” passenger coaches were acquired through Lückemeier Transport & Logistik, which then refurbishes them for use in Tanzania. They are suitable for operating at a speed of 160 km/h and are equipped with air conditioning, video surveillance systems, and information screens.
It is expected that the first coaches will begin operating on the country’s standard gauge railway in July. Initially, they will be hauled by four Class 1014 electric locomotives previously purchased by TRC from the Turkish construction company Yapı Merkezi.
