The Warrap State Acting Governor Aluel Garang Garang has vowed to use security forces to apprehend suspects behind the killing of 7 people in Romic area of Tonj East County on July 30, 2024.

The killings took place in Ramathieng cattle camp.

William Wol Mayom, the Warrap State Minister of Information and Communication told The Juba Echo on Friday that the Acting Governor issued this statement during her visit on Thursday to Romic.

 “The visit to Romic area of Tonj East County was just to console and advocate for peace, so that they should not take revenge, we will be able to analyze the situation and identify how best the culprits can be apprehended,” said Mayom.

On July 30, 2024, suspected armed men from Ngapagok Payam in Tonj East County, attacked Ramathieng cattle camp killing 7 people including children and women, six other people sustained gunshot injuries.

Mayom revealed that efforts to hunt for the suspects have been hampered by heavy flooding which have cut of the road from Kuajok to Tonj East County.

 “The government will use possible apparatus to make sure the culprits are apprehended,” he said.

Anastasie Nyirigira, the Head of Field Office for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Kuajok appealed to both sides to cease hostilities and allow government to resolve the conflict peacefully.

Gum Gaak, the Acting Commissioner of Tonj East County thanked the State government and UNMISS for reaching out to the families of the victims and survivors of the attack in Romic.

 The visiting delegation led by the Acting Governor comprised of Mawien Atek, the Local Government Minister, Zakaria Thokyok, State Member of Parliament and Bona Mawan Yaap, member of the State Relief Rehabilitation Commission. By Wek Atak, Tower Post
