Seven people have been confirmed dead and eight others seriously injured following a road accident at Mlima Punda near Lessos Junction along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Friday morning.

Ainabkoi Deputy Police Commander Charles Getende said the crash involved a Mercedes Actros trailer and two public service vehicles.

According to the police, the trailer was travelling towards Eldoret when it attempted to overtake while descending a hill, colliding head-on with two oncoming Toyota Hiace matatus.

The driver of one of the matatus and six passengers died at the scene, police said. Emergency responders and local authorities arrived at the scene and rescued survivors from the wreckage. The injured were taken to Burnt Forest Hospital and Plateau Hospital for treatment.

Among those killed were students who had closed school and were travelling home. Citizen Digital
