A section of members of parliament drawn from the Wiper Party have warned President William Ruto against attacking and throwing abusive words towards Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The leaders, mainly drawn from Kitui County, led by Kitui Rural MP Mbooni Mwalika, warned Ruto against consistent tirades targeting Kalonzo, noting that the main agenda for the opposition is to remove Ruto from power in 2027.

The MPs who spoke at different events in the county also asked locals to support Kalonzo's bid for the top seat come 2027, noting that despite the attacks from the president towards Kalonzo, he never responds with insults

"Kalonzo does not play that kind of politics. Even if he is attacked, he lays down his agenda for Kenyans. That's what we want," stated Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna.

Kalonzo Musyoka

"We've seen recently the president attacking Kalonzo and the opposition in general, telling them they lack sense. We know what we want, and it is to send Rutoo home. Right now, taxes have increased, and everyone is complaining, Mwalika added.

The leaders also asked leaders from the region to support Kalonzo Musyoka as he seeks to face President Ruto in the coming elections. The MPs called on Charity Ngil and Johnstone Muthama, among others.

Despite their calls, other members of parliament from the region, allied to the government, have instead called on the locals to rally their support towards President Ruto's reelection, noting that that is the only way the community could lobby for developments.

"Politics is about interests. So if you are interested in development projects, stick to the government so that they are not taken to other places. We must understand that what we have now is very special. Don't be deceived by people who want to undermine the president when they still don't have roads," said Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya.

Their statement followed President Ruto's recent attacks on the opposition, attacks seemingly directed at Kalonzo Musyoka.

President William Ruto has continued to dismiss the opposition's strategy, accusing Kalonzo of doing nothing for the eastern region despite spending over 40 years in government and active politics.

During one of Ruto's latest engagements in Homa Bay County during a Governor's Cup on Sunday, December 28, the President openly called out opposition for apparently lacking an agenda as he faulted an unnamed leader for being in politics for more than four decades with little to show. Many interpreted Ruto's sentiments as a direct jab at Kalonzo.

Meanwhile, the Wiper Party had also responded to Ruto, accusing him of dishonestly claiming credit for the Kibwezi-Mutumo-Kitui-Bondoni road project, which the party claimed should go to Kalonzo.

As the country gears up for the 2027 General Election, the emerging political showdown between President William Ruto and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is centered mainly on Kalonzo's traditional political stronghold, even as Ruto seeks to make inroads into the region while Kalonzo works to maintain his support.
