One person has died in eastern Uganda after displaying symptoms consistent with Mpox and close to 100 others are infected, the Monitor newspaper reports, citing medical workers.
The cases are concentrated in eight villages in Busia district. The first instances were detected about three weeks ago and were initially suspected to be chicken pox as they were mainly children, the newspaper said.
Medical authorities are investigating the possibility of an Mpox outbreak, the Busia district health officer Dr Mathias Wabwire Panyako is quoted as saying. By Helen Nyambura, Bloomberg
