ODM leader Raila Odinga yesterday called on politicians to conduct peaceful campaigns ahead of the August elections.

He condemned Meru Senator Mithika Linturi for alleged inciting remarks that he made at Deputy President William Ruto’s rally in Eldoret on Saturday.

Kuna wengine wanatishia kuotoa madoadoa, yani kwekwe, nataka niwajibu leo: Jaribuni!” (There are those threatening to weed out their opponents. I dare them to try,” he warned.

He was speaking at Kibichiku Secondary School in Kabete, Kiambu County, where he addressed an Azimio La Umoja meeting convened by mothers of political prisoners.

Raila said every Kenyan has a right to live and own property in any corner of the country.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta is committed to ensuring security and peaceful co-existence among Kenyans and so am I,” he said.

The ODM leader dismissed the Hustler movement associated with Ruto, saying his government would transform the economy.

“When you hear me say that I will ensure that all the jobless youth will be receiving Sh6,000 monthly, it’s not a joke but a promise,” he said.

Raila also said that if elected, he will ensure that every Kenyan will have access to affordable health care dubbed ‘Babacare’.

Lawyer Rumba Kinuthia said it was long overdue for Kenyans to rally behind Raila’s presidential bid owing to his long struggle against dictatorship.

“We pledge to stand with Jakom and mount a spirited campaign to ensure his landslide victory,” he said. By Clement Kamau, People Daily
