The South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) said Friday that it recorded six deaths, two injuries related to violence, and 47 traffic accidents during the Christmas festivities between 24 and 26 December.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, SSNPS Spokesperson Col. John Kassara described the general security situation in the last 48 hours across the 10 states and three administrative areas as normal except for some incidences reported in Central and Eastern Equatoria states.

In Central Equatoria, the Police mouthpiece said on 24 December, a 21-year-old male National Security Service (NSS) officer was stabbed with a knife and injured in the Referendum residential area and was taken to hospital for treatment but later succumbed to the injuries. A case was opened at the Western Division of the police in Munuki where a suspect was detained and investigations are ongoing.

According to Col. Kassara, on December 24 at around 8 p.m., a 36-year-old Ugandan national was found dead at his workplace in the Nyakuron suburb and a case was opened at the Mauna Police Division. He said the dead body was taken to the mortuary for postmortem to find out the cause of his death.

On the same day at around 9 p.m., there was a misunderstanding between 3 youths in the Mangatein suburb which resulted in the injury of a 15-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man, and a case was opened at the Western Police Division in Munuki and a suspect was arrested.

On Christmas Day, at around 6 a.m., one inmate was found dead in the prison, a case was opened at the Northern Police Division, and the dead body was taken to a military mortuary for an autopsy to find out the cause of his death, according to Col. Kassara.

He also revealed that a male Private from the South Sudan People`s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Seventh Division committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree in the Gumbo-Sherkat area east of Juba on Christmas Day. On the same day at around 4 p.m., an 18-year-old male was stabbed with a knife in the Nyakuron suburb and was taken to hospital for further treatment but unfortunately died and a case was opened at Mauna Police Division and the suspect was arrested.

The police spokesperson said that on 26 December at around 1 a.m., a 20-year-old male was shot dead by security personnel who were chasing suspected gangsters commonly known as niggas. The dead body was taken to Juba Funeral Home and a case was opened at Mauna Police Division.

In Eastern Equatoria, Col. Kassara said that on 25 December at around 4 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ihemehejek Administrative Payam and the police and Monyomiji (youth) are pursuing the criminals following their footmarks.

He also reported that the traffic police registered 47 minor motor accidents with no death recorded during Christmas celebrations. Radio Tamazuj
