County police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said the incidents occurred in Athi River and Machakos Town subcounties early Sunday.

Napeiyan said in the first incident, Pius Musembi Kivindu, 60, died on the spot after he lost control of his vehicle and rolled along Nairobi – Mombasa highway near Mto Wa Mawe bridge at Green Park area within Athi River subcounty at about 6.00am.

The incident was reported to Athi River police station as a fatal road traffic accident report at 7.00am, an hour after it had happened.

Napeiyan said the driver "hit a road pavement, lost control, swerved to the left hitting a concrete electric post and overturned.”

“As a result of the impact, the driver sustained a deep cut on the forehead and died on the spot. The body removed to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” he said.

The vehicle was towed to Athi River police station awaiting inspection.

The incident was reported at Machakos police station as serious injury road traffic accident that happened at 1.30am.

According to Napeiyan,  the accident was caused by careless driving.

“On reaching at the location of the accident, he failed to keep to his proper lane and collided head on with an oncoming motor – vehicle registration number KAM 733Y Toyota Corola which was being driven by Alexander Mulwa,” he said.

The police commanded further said as a result of the impact, Mulwa lost control of the vehicle that veered off the road and crash landed in a ditch while facing the opposite direction.

“The driver of Isuzu lorry fled immediately after the accident, leaving stationary motor vehicle on the road whereby another oncoming motor vehicle registration number KAG 501M Nissan Sunny that was being driven by Peter Kilonzo rammed on its rear side,” Napeiyan said.

He said Mulwa sustained serious multiple body and head injuries.
