In honour of President Mwai Kibaki, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed that the country observe a period of national mourning from Friday, April 22 until sunset of the day of his interment. Kenyan flag will fly half-mast across Kenya and all Kenyan missions abroad. President Uhuru also in the same order, Deputy President, Chief Justice, the Speaker of National Assembly and Kenya's Diplomats abroad and whoever else is authorized by law, has be directed not to fly the national flag on their motorcade from today until Kibaki is laid to rest.
Emilio Mwai Kibaki was born on Nov. 15, 1931 at the time Kenya was still under colonial rule. He studied Economics at Uganda's Makerere University and later London School of Economics. He served as Kenya's fourth President from 2002-2013, Kenya's fourth Vice President from 1978-1988. He held Cabinet Ministerial positions in the Kenyatta and Moi governments.
