Kalonzo is narrowly ahead of Matiang'i in the race to become opposition's 2027 presidential candidate. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is the most preferred opposition presidential candidate, an Infotrak survey has suggested.

The survey ranks Kalonzo first with a 27 per cent popularity rating, followed closely by Jubilee's Fred Matiang'i at 26 per cent.

Linda Mwananchi's Edwin Sifuna is third with a 19 per cent popularity rating, followed by former Deputy President and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua at 9 per cent.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has the backing of three per cent of opposition supporters, while PLP leader Martha Karua has two per cent support.

George Natembeya, Eugene Wamalwa, Okiya Omtatah and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino each attracted one per cent support.

The report also found that 10 per cent of respondents were undecided, suggesting the race for the opposition flag bearer remains open.

Regionally, Kalonzo enjoys his strongest support in North Eastern at 34 per cent and Eastern at 48 per cent.

He also attracts relatively even support across the 26-55 age groups, polling between 26 and 29 per cent.

Matiang'i is most popular at the Coast (25 per cent), Central (29 per cent), Rift Valley (27 per cent), Nyanza (29 per cent) and Nairobi (30 per cent).

His strongest support comes from the 36-45 age bracket, where he polls 30 per cent.

Sifuna records his highest support at the Coast (25 per cent), Western (35 per cent) and Nyanza (25 per cent).

His biggest support base is among respondents aged 18-26 years, where he scores 27 per cent.

The survey was conducted between June 22 and 26, 2026, across all 47 counties.

It sampled 3,000 adult respondents aged 18 years and above using a mixed-mode data collection approach.

The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.79 per cent at a 95 per cent confidence level and recorded a 99 per cent response rate.

The findings are expected to inform discussions within the united opposition as it seeks to settle on a single presidential candidate to face President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

In the overall presidential preference ranking, Ruto emerged as the frontrunner with a 32 per cent popularity rating, followed by Kalonzo at 13 per cent.

Sifuna and Matiang'i tied for third place with 12 per cent each, while Gachagua polled four per cent.

Babu Owino received 3 per cent support, Maraga two per cent and Karua one per cent. The Star
