Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sent a plea to the Somali community, dismissing claims that the opposition is against them following DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua’s controversial claims regarding an Eastleigh businessman.
Speaking at the funeral of the late Muhia Njoroge, father of Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, on Wednesday January 7, Kalonzo stated that the united opposition stands in solidarity with the Somali community.
Kalonzo affirmed that the united opposition is working on the real unity of Kenya, clearing claims that have arisen since Gachagua’s statements.
“We want to assure Somalis and every other Kenyan who is not a criminal that we are together; we are working for the real unity of Kenya,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo’s remarks were welcomed by Rigathi Gachagua, who made the initial controversial statement, and has since clarified that his comments were not directed at the Somali community, but at specific individuals he accuses of engaging in corruption.
Gachagua, however, claimed that he never mentioned any specific mall in his accusations or the community the owner comes from.
“I recently spoke about a mall in Eastleigh which was used to import rice at the expense of our farmers. I have seen people saying that I have attacked the mall. I never mentioned the mall, or the owner, or the community he comes from,” Gachagua claimed.
The DCP leader now says that the leaders from the Somali community should refrain from tarnishing the entire community.
However, Gachagua insisted that those he accused of using proceeds of corruption from Minnesota to build a mall in Eastleigh are guilty as charged.
In his speech, Kalonzo also rejected Ruto’s Singaporean dream, claiming that comparing Kenya to Singapore is a diplomatic breach of state.
“Even if your country is poor, you cannot compare your country to another one; that is a serious breach of protocol. I am quite sure that Singaporeans are themselves embarrassed,” Kalonzo claimed.
The Wiper boss insists that the Singapore dream is a diversionary tactic by President Ruto to hoodwink Kenyans. By
