The Ugandan foreign minister, in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, called out Israel’s military action against Iran.
Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, during his stay in New York for the UNGA, held a meeting with Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubaker, Uganda’s foreign minister, on Saturday afternoon.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations and explored ways to expand cooperation in economic, trade, technology and agricultural fields.
They also exchanged views on strengthening coordination between the two countries within international organizations.
Araghchi emphasized Iran’s strong interest in deepening ties with developing nations, particularly in Africa, and expressed Tehran’s readiness to broaden cooperation with Uganda in all areas. The two ministers also discussed recent international developments.
Araghchi praised Uganda’s efforts and initiatives as chair of the Non-Aligned Movement. He then called for a stronger role for the movement in resisting unilateralism and violations of international law, especially the unjust sanctions against developing countries.
Uganda’s foreign minister, for his part, reaffirmed his country’s position and that of the Non-Aligned Movement in condemning Israeli and US military actions against Iran. He also criticized the misappropriate use of the UN Security Council to pressure Tehran and voiced support for the right of all member states of the Non-Aligned Movement to pursue peaceful nuclear energy.
