Within the framework of the prestigious international trade fair Green Week (Grüne Woche) in Berlin, Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of agriculture and food security. In particular, the two countries agreed to create a logistics agro hub for the reception, storage and distribution of grain crops, according to the press service of Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
“We are interested not only in supplying raw materials, but also in developing joint projects in processing, logistics and the implementation of modern agrotechnologies. Cooperation with the Democratic Republic of the Congo opens new markets for Ukrainian producers, creates investment opportunities and contributes to the formation of sustainable food supply chains,” said Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksii Sobolev, who signed the document on behalf of Ukraine.
What was agreed?
The parties agreed on ambitious projects that will benefit both countries. One of the key elements of the memorandum is the establishment of a logistics agro hub for the reception, storage and distribution of grain crops.
Beyond logistics, cooperation will focus on the following areas:
-
development of a food processing and distribution center, including for social programs and school canteens;
-
seed production and the supply of high-quality certified seeds of key crops;
-
agricultural research and technologies, including precision farming and irrigation methods;
-
fertilizer production and land reclamation;
-
crop and livestock production, aquaculture, veterinary products and related technologies;
-
agricultural and technical education for Congolese citizens;
-
processing of agricultural products and other related areas.
“This opens new opportunities to expand the presence of Ukrainian agricultural producers in African markets, develop exports of value-added agri-food products, and strengthen Ukraine’s role as a reliable partner in global food security,” the Ministry of Economy stated.
It is worth recalling that in November 2025 Ukraine announced plans to establish an agro hub in West Africa, having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ghana.
