A drone targeted a US diplomatic facility in Iraq on Tuesday in an attack believed to have been carried out by Iran-aligned armed groups, the Washington Post reported.
The newspaper, citing an Iraqi security official and an internal alert from the US State Department, said one of six drones struck the US Diplomatic Support Centre near Baghdad International Airport. Air defences shot down the other five drones.
The centre is an important logistics hub supporting the work of US diplomats in Iraq and is located near Iraqi military bases.
There were no confirmed reports of casualties. The White House, the US State Department and the Pentagon declined to comment on the attack.

The Iraqi security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attack was most likely carried out by the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq”, an umbrella group of Iran-backed armed factions.
According to the internal US alert, the drone struck a guard tower, and staff at the facility were immediately ordered to take shelter.
The incident comes after the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets inside Iran on 28 February. Tehran later responded with attacks targeting Israel and US bases in the Gulf.
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations said the US-Israeli attacks killed more than 1,300 civilians. Israel reported that 11 civilians were killed, while the US military said seven of its soldiers had died and about 150 others were wounded. MEMO
