South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit returned to Juba on Wednesday morning after official visits to Djibouti and Uganda, where he attended the inauguration ceremonies of President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the presidential press unit said.
Kiir arrived in Kampala on Sunday ahead of Museveni’s inauguration, who was sworn in on Tuesday for a seventh term in office.
Prior to the Uganda visit, Kiir attended Guelleh’s inauguration in Djibouti on Saturday, where the veteran leader was sworn in for a sixth consecutive term.
According to a statement from the presidential press unit, Kiir also held bilateral talks during the trips focused on regional cooperation, peace and stability.
At Juba International Airport, Kiir was received by senior government officials, members of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and supporters who welcomed him with traditional dances and chants of “Salva Kiir, our President.” Radio Tamazuj
