The Kerugoya High Court has extended conservatory orders suspending the privatisation of Mwea Rice Mills (MRM) pending the hearing and determination of the case filed by two rice farmers.
While extending the conservatory order, Kerugoya High Court judge Edward Muriithi ordered the petitioners to physically serve the Attorney General, Mwea Rice Growers Cooperative Society Ltd (MRGM) and MRM.
Mwea rice farmers Pius Njogu and John Munene, through their Lawyer Ruth Gacungi, moved to court after President William Ruto signed nine key bills into law on October 15, 2025, among them the Privatisation Act 2025, which proposed the privatisation of MRM among other institutions.
