Ida Odinga, the wife of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has addressed the growing speculation surrounding the veteran politician.
Speaking to residents of Migori on Tuesday afternoon, Ida confirmed that Raila was well and had travelled abroad to take a break from Kenya's political spotlight.
She went ahead to question how people who are not close to Raila could know his health status better than she does.
While dismissing rumours of Odinga's ill health, Ida noted that she was in the best position to address Odinga's whereabouts since she lives with him, unlike those spreading rumours.
“In the past week, people have been disturbed by rumours claiming Raila is sick. If his condition were truly as serious as they say, I would have taken him to a hospital here in Migori for treatment," Ida stated.
"He is fine, he is just resting abroad. How can someone who does not live with him claim to know his health status, while I, who stays with him, am unaware of any issues? Baba is okay,” she added. To reassure Kenyans, the former Prime Minister's wife went on to share Odinga's greetings, stating that the ODM leader would soon jet back to the country.
Ida's comments come amidst speculations that Odinga allegedly jetted out of the country to receive treatment due to his deteriorating health.
'Pray for Propagandists'
Meanwhile, the clarification followed hours before ODM party's Communications Director Philip Etale expressed similar sentiments, assuring Kenyans that the veteran politician was fine.
Etale disclosed that he held a phone conversation with Odinga, who dispelled the allegations as online propaganda, with the former Prime Minister calling on Kenyans to pray for people spreading such rumours.
"I have just spoken with Raila Odinga, just under five minutes ago. He is jovial and happy," Etale said. Adding that Odinga told him, "I am seeing people spreading so much propaganda online. Let's keep praying for them."
The ODM Communications Director added, "He has sent me to convey his greetings to all of you and says he will be back in a few days." by , Kenyans.co.ke
